Safe Boating Guide

The Canadian Online Safe Boating Guide includes all the boater safety knowledge and boating resources you need to pass the final Canadian Boating License exam and obtain your Pleasure Craft Operator Card.

Transport Canada has authorized the BOATsmart!® Study Guide in two formats:

Printed Safe Boating Study Guide:

  • Full-colour printed format
  • Available at participating Canadian Tire Stores & Marine Retailers across Canada.
  • The BOATsmart!® Study Guide can serve as a boating safety reference guide to have on board after you completed the PCOC exam.

Online Safe Boating Guide:

If you prefer to take the exam online, Transport Canada requires that you complete a three-hour progressive online Safe Boating Course to obtain your boaters license.

You are not required to complete the 3-hour Safe Boating Course Online all at once, the BOATsmart!® Canada website will track your progress automatically and you can log in and out at your convenience.
